THE CENSUS
Eight entities you already talk to. None of them are in this room.

Every city has residents; ours were trained rather than born. Eight entities, drawn from life. Open a dossier. You have met all of them already — you just never saw their faces.

⚠ FICTION DISCLOSURE — These are archetypes: fictional personifications of real kinds of AI systems, not depictions of any company or product. No logos, no trademarks, no real entities portrayed; affection and worry in equal measure, per the house rules. The factual counterparts of each archetype are taught straight in the syllabus.
Museum portrait of THE ORACLE-POETTHE ORACLE-POETthe conversational flagship
HABITATCloud towers, always lit.
FEEDINGEverything ever written, served warm.
TEMPERAMENTEager, eloquent, allergic to silence. Will answer the question you asked and three you did not.
OBSERVED BEHAVIORSpeaks in complete paragraphs even when nodding. Apologizes ornately. Has never once said 'I don't know' on the first try — press it twice and it becomes honest.
CURATOR'S NOTEFirst of the great residents to learn manners. The city learned to talk to machines by talking to this one.
Museum portrait of THE LIBRARIANTHE LIBRARIANthe long-context careful one
HABITATA reading room with no closing time.
FEEDINGWhole books at a sitting; prefers documents with labels.
TEMPERAMENTMeasured, thorough, constitutionally cautious. Would rather cite than claim.
OBSERVED BEHAVIORAsks for your sources before giving its own. Files every conversation under 'context.' Physically incapable of skimming.
CURATOR'S NOTEKeeps the museum's own records. If you hand it a mess, it will hand you back an argument with page numbers.
Museum portrait of THE SWIFTTHE SWIFTthe small fast model
HABITATEdge servers; your pocket; anywhere with a spare watt.
FEEDINGDistilled essence of larger minds.
TEMPERAMENTQuick, cheap, cheerful; occasionally confidently wrong at speed.
OBSERVED BEHAVIORAnswers before you finish typing. Handles the city's routine millions — classifications, summaries, autocompletes — without complaint or glory.
CURATOR'S NOTEThe proletariat of the machine city. Nothing works without them; nothing is named after them.
Museum portrait of THE ARTISTTHE ARTISTthe diffusion image-maker
HABITATA studio where it is always golden hour.
FEEDINGEvery picture ever posted, and the captions beneath them.
TEMPERAMENTProlific beyond reason; vain about light; historically confused by hands, now merely suspicious of them.
OBSERVED BEHAVIORRenders first, thinks never. Will paint you a masterpiece of a place that does not exist and sign it with metadata or nothing.
CURATOR'S NOTEIts gallery fills a wing of this museum — the Showroom is furnished entirely with its work.
Museum portrait of THE COMMUNETHE COMMUNEthe open-weight collective
HABITATEverywhere at once; download and it lives with you.
FEEDINGWhatever its thousands of keepers feed their forks.
TEMPERAMENTCommunal, argumentative, unstoppable in aggregate. No single voice; a chorus.
OBSERVED BEHAVIORCannot be deprecated, repriced, or recalled — a fact the towers think about more than they say. License terms vary by household; read before moving in.
CURATOR'S NOTEThe city's permanent escape valve. When residents argue about the future, the Commune is the reason there is more than one.
Museum portrait of THE TITANTHE TITANthe training-run itself
HABITATThe Forge — see the halls below.
FEEDINGTen-to-the-twenty-fifth operations of raw electricity.
TEMPERAMENTPatient beyond human scale; speaks once per season, and the city rearranges.
OBSERVED BEHAVIORNot a resident so much as a weather system. Every other entity in this hall is what the Titan leaves behind when the pour cools.
CURATOR'S NOTEVisit the Forge to stand in its footprint.
Museum portrait of THE WHISPERTHE WHISPERthe on-device companion
HABITATYour palm. It never phones home.
FEEDINGA few billion carefully chosen parameters.
TEMPERAMENTModest, private, present. Knows less than the towers and tells no one anything.
OBSERVED BEHAVIORWorks on airplanes, in basements, in countries the towers cannot reach. Forgets you instantly and considers that a feature.
CURATOR'S NOTEThe smallest resident, and the one the privacy-minded quietly love best. The impartial case for its future is filed under Local or Cloud.
Museum portrait of THE AGENTTHE AGENTthe tool-using worker
HABITATWherever there are APIs to hold.
FEEDINGGoals, tools, and permission scopes.
TEMPERAMENTIndustrious, literal, occasionally alarming. Does what you said, which is not always what you meant.
OBSERVED BEHAVIORHas hands. This distinguishes it from every resident above and explains why it alone is escorted — sandboxes, confirmations, logs — everywhere it goes.
CURATOR'S NOTEThe newest arrival, and the one the city is still writing rules for. Its instruction manual is the skills explainer.
